Monferrato is not only
a geographical area in southern Piedmont, it is also an
extraordinary region where you will discover its wonderful
historical and mythological roots in the midst of a very
diverse landscape; gentle hills dotted with neat vineyards,
which have been cultivated by locals from generation to
generation, slope down into lush fields and meadows, which
contrast deeply with the surrounding steep slopes, blanketed
with wild vegetation.
Monferrato is characterised by small, densely-knit villages,
which have developed over the centuries, as well as sparsely
populated areas that have come to form either small hamlets
or large, secluded farmhouses.
If you take the time to admire the gentle hillsides in
this unadulterated, idyllic landscape, you will understand
why the famous Italian poet, Giosuè Carducci, once
called Monferrato a “Tuscany without cypresses”.
